I love sleep because it’s a time machine to breakfast. Who’s with me? Breakfast has long been dubbed the most important meal of the day, and while that statement has seen its fair share of naysayers, there are a lot of reasons why it’s important to make your first meal a good one.

First of all, a healthy breakfast will set a precedent for the rest of your day, plus it really kick-starts your metabolism. This doesn’t mean that breakfast needs to be home-cooked, organic, free-range eggs (with a side of perfectly ripe avocado, of course); it simply means that you should fuel your body in the a.m.—even if it’s with something small. I tend to rotate breakfasts throughout the week to keep it exciting, and here I’m sharing 9 of my favorites—perfect for every appetite and schedule.

1 The ‘I’m-not-hungry’ breakfast

We’ve all had mornings where the thought of breakfast just isn’t appealing. But before you ditch the most important meal of the day, remember that grabbing a quick bite before work will improve your concentration (and work performance), so that 9 a.m. conference call won’t seem so bad.
