The way you start your day sets the tone. If you hit the snooze button on your alarm five times, and you get out of bed late, you’ll be rushed. You won’t have time to look your best, grab coffee, or make your lunch. Your whole day is thrown off. Even if you aren’t a morning person, you can establish a routine that sets a good tone for your entire day. Here are five things you should do before getting out of bed each morning.
1 Enjoy the moment
When you first open your eyes, do you hear rain outside or is it sunny? Is your love sleeping soundly next to you or is coffee brewing in the kitchen? Whatever the case may be, enjoy it. Soak it in. Be thankful for the sun or for the rain. Starting your day off with a moment of gratefulness can leave you feeling refreshed, awake and happy for the rest of the day.
We all know that stretching is good for the body. It’s good for injury prevention, circulation, and posture. Before you jump out of bed in the morning, do a few gentle stretches. You can look up a routine to follow or just stretch your body and long as it will go. You’ll have more pep in your step when you get out of bed if you’ve worked out all the kinks from the night before.
3 Consider what you have to do
As you begin to wake up, think about the things you absolutely must get done today. How will you accomplish it all? Do you need to ask someone for help? Make a rough plan for your day so you can hit the ground running.
4 Drink some water
Most of us don’t drink enough water, living in a state of chronic dehydration. Guess what? That makes you feel tired. You can start your day off right by doing a little prep work the night before. Put a water bottle beside your bed each night and drink 8 ounces before you get out of bed.
If a specific area of your life is causing stress, formulate affirmations that put the issue in a positive, current state. For example, “I am a confident person”. Recite 2 or 3 affirmations to yourself each morning.
You don’t have to do all 5 things before getting out of bed, but the more you fit into your schedule, the better off you’ll be. If you are skeptical, start off with 2 or 3 of these actions, adding in more as you see the benefits!
