How To Live Like A Modern Minimalist

This year is all about de-cluttering. Whether you’ve picked up the famous Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo, you know the importance of only wasting energy on things that matter. This is the year of you, so here’s how to be a modern minimalist in 2016.

1. Put your phone down

I’m in love with my phone, we all are these days. To truly start living minimally, you should try to cut down the time you spend on your phone. The less you rely on it, the happier you will be. Of course, there are apps and contact details you probably can’t live without, so it’s tough to get rid of your phone for even more than an hour.

2. Update your wardrobe

Minimalism advocates only keeping a few key pieces in your wardrobe, which is pretty genius as it allows you to be more creative with your outfit options. If you’re not about that life, you should put all your winter clothes away now and focus on curating a spring/summer wardrobe that you won’t need to add to often.

3. De-clutter your life

Curating your space to represent what’s important to you will make you much happier, but it does involve throwing some things in the bin or giving them away. Once your space is more minimalistic, you’ll have much more time to think and room to breathe.

4. De-clutter your brain

Just like you do with your space and your wardrobe, you need to take some time to address what’s playing on your mind, too. For example, wasting time and energy worrying about things that are out of your control takes up a lot of mental energy you could be using elsewhere. 5. De-clutter your diet

Lastly, the modern minimalist prefers to go for home-made, organic food that consists of great, local ingredients. Instead of going for processed foods, shop at a farmers market or organic store and stock up on staples like fruits, vegetables, and meats that can be grilled and turned into a variety of delicious meals. Don’t underestimate the power of a great smoothie in the morning too. With a bit of prep, you could probably rule out all processed foods. It’s something that I definitely need and want to work on this year.
